The ruling AIADMK party cadres went on rampage on Tuesday over Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president E V K S Elangovan’s “defamatory” remarks over the recent meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to the meeting between Jayalalithaa and Modi on August 7, Elangovan had said that the “secret partnership” between the BJP and the AIADMK has now come out in open.
Condemning Elangovan’s remarks, even the Tamil Nadu BJP unit announced that it would stage a protest demonstration across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday demanding the TNCC president’s removal from the post.

Taking objection to Elangovan comments, AIADMK members including senior party functionaries took to marching to the TNCC Headquarters “Sathyamurthy Bhavan” in the city and staged a demonstration.

AIADMK partymen also shouted slogans accusing Elangovan for his remarks and burnt his effigy. “We will not stop our protest until he (Elangovan) tenders unconditional apology for his remarks,” AIADMK’s workers wing secretary Arjunan said. Some of the party cadres also damaged the name boards in front of the TNCC office and hurled stones.

After AIADMK warned Elangovan of dire consequences if he did not tender an apology, heavy police were deployed in front of Elangovan’s house at suburban Manapakkam and at Adyar area in the city to prevent untoward incidents. Similar protest demonstrations by AIADMK cadres were held in every district headquarters of Tamil Nadu.
