SC to review CBI's staff shortage

Supreme Court on Monday decided to examine CBI’s staff shortage, asking the agency to provide details on recruitment, deputation and revision of its current strength in two weeks.

A bench of Justices T S Thakur and C Nagappan told CBI’s council and Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to also provide details on the steps taken to fill up vacancies in the probe agency.

"What is the current cadre strength of the CBI and when it was revised last? What was the number of cases pending with the CBI when the cadre strength was last revised," the bench asked the counsel.
