The 39-year-old former wife of controversial author Salman Rushdie is carrying the child of Dell, a venture capitalist who teaches at Columbia Business School, reported New York Post.
The 40-year-old teacher is the younger brother of billionaire computer maker Michael Dell.
Lakshmi, who has been linked to corporate honcho Teddy Forstmann for quite sometime now, was first spotted with Dell nearly two years ago at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
A month later, the pair were spotted together at Evelyn Lauder's party for breast cancer research.
Lakshmi, who hosts a cookery show 'Top Chef', was recently hospitalized for five days due to complications in her pregnancy.
"The baby was in serious danger. Teddy has been by her side the whole time. He has been incredibly wonderful and supportive," said a source.
After she broke the news of her pregnancy in October last year, it was widely speculated that Forstmann was the father of the child.
"She has no interest in sharing with the public the identity of the father. She asks that people respect her privacy," said Lakshmi's publicist, Christina Papadopoulos.
Neither Dell nor Forstmann have confirmed or denied the reports.
