Former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s daughters have decided to give up the security cover provided to them by the Special Special Protection Guard (SPG).
Delhi University professor Upinder Singh and writer Daman Singh had communicated to the authorities seeking withdrawal of SPG protection.
This came after an assessment of their security was done recently by the government which decided to continue the SPG cover till May 2016.
Following the requests, official sources said, the SPG commandos deployed for Daman’s security has been withdrawn while the process for Upinder is underway.

“We had made a request and it has been withdrawn,” Daman, whose husband is an IPS officer, said.“At present they are still there but we have already told them to withdraw it. This will be done after completing the required procedures,” Upinder was quoted by PTI as saying.
Singh’s third daughter Amrit Singh stays in the United States and was provided with SPG cover whenever she visited India.
