Republic Day celebrated with patriotic fervour

The 67th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour with students presenting a variety of cultural programmes in Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

Animal Husbandry and Sericulture Minister A Manju hoisted the National Flag in Hassan. Forty three troops, including KSRP, DAR and students of various schools, participated in the march past.

A Horticulture and flower show was organised as a part of the Republic Day at the Silver Jubilee Park, which was inaugurated by Manju. A replica of Taj Mahal and a bull using flowers and Abdul Kalam with noodles were the main attractions. The flower show will be held till January 28.

Mandya

Housing Minister Ambareesh received the guard of honour during the Republic Day parade in Mandya. He said the Britishers looted the natural resources of the country, but could not take away our intelligence. Hence, the country is treated with great respect. Unity and intelligence are the strength of our country, he said.

However, the minister disappointed Sarvothama awardees, who were waiting to be felicitated. Though it was announced that Ambareesh would honour government employees identified for their service, the Minister told the organisers to continue with the function and left the venue. Later, Deputy Commissioner Dr Ajay Nagabushan presented the awards.

Chamarajanagar

Minister H S Mahadev Prasad, who hoisted the tricolour during the Republic Day celebrations, in Chamarajanagar, said it is the responsibility of everyone to maintain unity in diversity. He recalled the sacrifices of hundreds of people in getting Independence. The country is on the path of development in all fields, he said.
