Desi khana, chai and chat

Mister Chai has been curated to give patrons a local ‘tea shop feel’ focusing on regional Indian street food and beverages with a strong focus on tea.

Part of restaurants in Shangri-La’s, this is an intimate and relaxed space, enclosed by an intricately detailed brass balustrade, with each bookend creating a design. Placed to the left, sits the towering, gold leaf etched timber Tibetan prayer wheels, and to the right, an intricate screen of planter boxes. This quaint and exquisite element ensures that guests enjoy privacy from the main lobby. Beveled antique mirror walls add depth and open up this subtle space.

Brass shelving has been suspended delicately from the ceiling, displaying the variety of items on offer. Each feature adds its own distinctive character to create the perfect ambience for guests to relax and savour the delicacies on offer. The lounge entails an engaging masala chai action station as well as a delectable assortment of pastries displayed in intricately designed jewellery boxes in a stunning culinary display, which further lends itself to enhancing the quiet luxury of the restaurant.

Unlike a conventional tea lounge, Mister Chai is a dining destination in its own right. Popular Indian street food has been reinvented and presented with continental style.

The menu is a kaleidoscope of regional dishes with a modern twist. The Namkeen ka Dabba, which is also considered to be the famous Indian savory teatime snack, comprises of ajwani matthi, curry patta peanuts, cheese fan giving your palate the perfect flavoursome punch. The Wow Pao is a modern take on the native Maharashtrian snack consisting of aperitifs such as the Goan chorizo pav, Shikampuri pav or even the classic vada pav. Continuing with the Maharashtrian inspired relishes, the menu also contains a Taste of Mumbai section comprising of classics such as Colaba Fish Fry Sandwich, Bun Maska’ and much more which encapsulate the authentic flavours of Maharashtra. The ‘Chaat Pe Charcha’ selection comprises of Corn Bhel,  Kale Pakora Chaat, and Shakarkandi Chaat encapsulating flavours in sync with the most popular street food in Delhi.

The menu also has a section called the ‘Firangi Twist’ which helps cater to the most discerning of palates, comprising of noteworthy dishes such as Chocolate Toast which is toasted brioche bread layered with melted Cadbury Silk chocolate, Chicken Khurchan Tacos comprising of slowly cooked chicken, guacamole, tomato chutney and garlic yoghurt all wrapped in a roti. The tea restaurant also comprises of an exclusive selection of international sandwiches in the menu under a section named ‘Bikini’, Barcelona’s take on finger sandwiches such as Grilled Multigrain Sandwich with cheddar cheese and fig jam, Turkey Ham Sandwich with Avacado, tomatoes, cheese and rocket leaves and many such international flavours.

Further into the menu, the place offers its patrons an assortment of elegant pastries, macaroons, and handcrafted chocolates imbued with regional flavours. A few of the signature chocolates are Paantastic which is an ivory white chocolate enriched with saffron blended with gulkand, sweet anise seeds and cardamom, Mango Bite in which aam papad and passion fruit puree is blended with white chocolate in a milk chocolate shell among other handcrafted chocolates. Mister Chai’s mini entremets comprises of pastries like Mango Passion, which is a combination of mango passion fruit cremeaux, passion fruit jelly in a nutty aam papad cake, Mister Chai Chocolate Texture which is an amalgamation of fullentine crunch, chocolate cream, egg free chocolate sponge cake, Apricot Compote and Peanut Chikki including many diverse pastries. The Mister Chai Fabulous Cheese Cake is a delicious entremet consisting of cream cheese, a layer of blueberry compote on a Parle-G cookies crust base.

The beverage menu from Mister Chai does not disappoint and lives up to the name of the restaurant, providing a plethora of choices with its tea selection. Mister Chai offers a custom blend of in-house tea that they freshly prepare in front of their guests. The Chai Ki Tapri, which consists of the traditional Cutting Chai, Meri Apni Cutting and Kadak Masala Chai provide the quintessential Indian Chai experience. The beverage menu further offers a variety of Black Teas, Green Teas, Oolong Teas and Herbal Teas, Regional Teas, as well as Chai Thandi a variety of Iced Cold Teas.  The menu also contains a section called the Mister Chai’s Microbrewery, which offers a selection of freshly brewed lavazza coffee. The Single Origin Coffee selection is inspired from specific coffee native regions such as Blue Mountain (Jamaican, full bodied and powerful), Rain Forest (Costa Rican, aromatic and refined) and more. Mister Chai also offers non-tea specialties from the streets of India under the Indian Chaska selection such as Masala Cola, Nimbu Lemon, Orange Ginger Punch, among other similar exciting beverage options.

It is a must visit place to enjoy international tea, traditional Indian chai or a freshly brewed cup of coffee. This tea restaurant is all set to provide guests an authentic local teashop experience in the heart of the city’s business and entertainment district.
