Rampant illegal constructions

Illegal constructions are proceeding unabated with the active collusion of the authorities in Rajajinagar. I have been living in this area since 1956. High-rise buildings have come up on small sites endangering lives. The whole area is occupied by the unscrupulous moneylenders who don't care for the building byelaw rules. If the BBMP commissioner takes time out of his busy schedule and goes on a Rajajinagar rounds, he can easily see blatant violations of building byelaws. I request the commissioner to visit the area and take stock of the situation.  Hari Kishen

Women commuters, please restrainI witnessed a woman slapping a middle-aged man several times, a  week ago in a BMTC bus service in route number 171 for standing close to her seat. It was a heavily crowded bus with everyone trying to jostle for space. Besides, there was a traffic jam between Wilson Garden Police Station and Double Road.  Whatever be the reasons, she cannot take law into her hands and what if men commuter had hit back. A similar incident happened in a crowded bus.  Women should not make a big issue when a journey is for a short duration.B S  Chandrashekar,Malleswaram

Repair this roadThe road in Ramanashree Enclave (Bilekahalli, near Shantiniketan school) is full of potholes. The stretch needs to be asphalted. The road has been in this poor condition for the past two years and none of the civic authorities have cared to repair it. Nagendra

Remove air horns from pvt vehiclesHonking of air horns by private buses and trucks in city limits is highly disturbing and all vehicles also start honking without any reason. How traffic police is allowing private bus operators to fit air horns? Are they allowed in City limits? The traffic police and Transport department should inspect the buses and take steps to remove air horns. The driving licence of the driver should be suspended in the first instance of violation and in subsequent cases, the bus owner should be penalised.S Ramesh, Assistant Professor, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Kadugodi.

No water for eight yearsWe live on the stretch of Kodihalli Main Road starting from 80 feet Road, Indiranagar,  HAL 2nd stage. The residents here never had the privilege of water from BWSSB for the past eight years whereas such facility is available on parallel roads. There are more than eight apartments and lots of independent houses on this stretch. The residents here have to depend on private tankers during summer. Look forward to authorities concerned to resolve the issue.                Shaji Alex, Jay Villa  Apartments Kodihalli Main road

Replace sewage lines in KG LayoutThe sewage lines on 50 feet road, Kempegowda Layout, Banashankari 3rd  Stage, have been laid at the time of formation of the layout - during 1978-1980. A large number of buildings have come up in the area in the past 40 years putting pressure on the age-old sewage system. The drainage is blocking the septic chambers of several houses. The residents have been incurring substantial expense once in two to three months to get the blockage in the chambers of their houses cleared. It is also noticed that new lines have been laid in various roads in and around Kathriguppe water tank, however, no steps have been taken to replace the old lines. Siddappa, 685, 50 feet road KG Layout, BSK 3rd stage

BMTC buses without lights on display boardMost of the BMTC buses do not  have light on the board making it difficult to find out the route destinations during evening or night. Moreover, the bus services between Shivajinagar and Basaveshwarnagar/Rajajinagar are pathetic and unreliable. Commuters waiting at stops like Indian Express, RC College and Shivananda Circle are facing a lot of hardship due to non-availability of BMTC buses, particularly between 8 am and 10 am from Basaveshwarnagar side and 6 pm to 8 pm from Shivajinagar. Also, more buses should be added during evening hours on route number 95 as it would benefit a large number of commuters who travel on this route .It is high time the BMTC looks into the above issues in the interest of the general public. G Madhava Rao

Protect Horamavu Agara lake
Garbage is being into Horamavu Agara lake everyday. It is a pathetic experience to walk on the road by the side of the lake with heaps of garbage lining the stretch. There is fence around this lake but at some stretches the fence is broken, where people throw garbage. There also have been attempts at encroaching upon the lake land. The authorities concerned are requested to fence the lake area at the earliest. Street lights have to be installed on the road by the side of the lake to prevent the trucks and tractors from dumping the waste at night.Shajan Mathew, Banjara Layout, Horamavu

Drinking water pipes laid in SWD
Pipes supplying drinking water have been laid in the open stormwater drain (SWD) behind Nakshatra Apartments in Lingarajapuram. The SWD is clogged with sand thus creating a soft bed for the water pipes. But, whenever there are rains, water gets accumulated in SWD and the whole area gets inundated. I end up paying money from my pocket to keep the surrounding clean. The BBMP cleaning staff are not helpful. Will the authorities concerned will redress the issue?Robin
