Latur to get water by train to tackle drought

With the worsening drought situation in Marathwada region, Maharashtra government on Thursday announced it will supply water to Latur district by train in a fortnight. 

Drought conditions in Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of  Thane, Palghar and Raigad has also been severe, with corporations and housing societies supplying water every alternate days or once in three days to urban neighbourhoods.

Thane city police has asked local police stations to keep a tap on housing societies to ensure water crises does not lead to law and order problems. 

Meanwhile, Maharashtra government is planning to shift prisoners from the severely hit Beed and Latur district jails to places like Nashik and Dhule.
