Senior IAS officer and additional chief secretary K Ratna Prabha choosing the north-facing door and shunning the west-facing door to enter her office at the Vidhana Soudha became a hot topic of discussion in the corridors of powers on Wednesday.

Speculation was rife that Prabha changed her entry door as per the advice of a vaastu consultant. She has been told that using the west-facing door is not good for her career growth. The officer is an aspirant for the post of chief secretary As per vaastu, west direction is considered inauspicious as the sun sets in that direction. North is considered good for career growth and fortune. The additional chief secretary’s office is located at room 331 on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha.

Many predecessors of Prabha were not using the north door as it is located next to a toilet. Prabha, too, was using the west door till recently. It is speculated that she changed the entry door, following the government’s decision to give three months’ extension to incumbent chief secretary Arvind Jadhav.

When contacted, Prabha, denied that changing the door was related to vaastu.

“The room gets good ventilation if I use the north door. Moreover, the door is easily accessible to people. It is also close to the elevator. I don’t know why the media is making such a big issue of it. I have not broken any wall. The room has two doors and I have decided to use the north one,” she added.
