A Dalit woman who has been gang-raped for the second time by the same group of accused is struggling for justice.

Five people, accused of raping her in Bhiwani three years ago,  were booked and have been out on bail. They committed the same violence against her last Wednesday. This time, despite the victim complaining to the police, the accused are still at large. Dalit organisations held protests in Rohtak on Sunday seeking their immediate arrest. They threatened an agitation in case the police failed to act. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij intervened on Monday, directing the state police to act swiftly in the case, said sources.

The Dalit girl is pursuing a master’s degree in Rohtak. The girl informed the police that last Wednesday while she was standing at the entrance of her college, the same accused dragged her into a car and drove to an undisclosed location.  The accused then raped her and abandoned her on the road with her clothes torn. The victim has told the police that she was raped by the same persons who had raped her earlier.

The family alleged that the accused threatened and pressurised them to compromise in the case. The police said the five accused —Amit, Mausam, Raju, Akash and Sandeep— have been booked and a search is on to nab them at the earliest. The police had arrested the five accused in 2013.
