A security guard at a private college in Malleswaram is suspected to have sent lewd messages by WhatsApp to four female teachers.

One of the teachers went to the Malleswaram police station a few days ago and made a complaint that she, along with three other teachers, had received the messages from an unknown phone number. Some of the messages were ‘I love you’ and ‘I’m waiting for you’.

Police picked up a student of the college based on the phone number, but questioning him showed that he wasn’t involved. The student suspected one of his friends, who had borrowed his phone and had been using it for the last few days. Police believed the student when teachers continued to get the messages even as he was in detention. He was subsequently let off.

Police then started looking out for the security guard and suspect that he was driven by revenge. But a clear picture will emerge only when the guard is arrested, a senior police officer said. As of now, the phone number is switched off. The officer said the guard might have discarded the handset and was only using the SIM card.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
