'Balance hard work and enjoyment in college life'

Last Updated 01 March 2017, 19:09 IST

Hard work is as important as enjoyment, said Kannada actor Dr Shiva Rajkumar. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Incident 2017’, at NITK, Surathkal in Mangaluru on Wednesday. There is no doubt that college life calls for enjoyment. But it should not overshadow the educational activities, he said.

Recollecting his association with NITK, he said that he always wanted to come to the institution while he was shooting for his films in the district. He had recently visited the institution to watch the project prepared by a student of computer science in NITK, who also happens to be his relative.

He meanwhile called upon the participants to take part in the events and accept the results in a sportive mood, be it the victory or the defeat. Shiva Rajkumar also sang the lines of “Tuvvi Tuvvi”, “Mehbooba”, “Yakamma Nagtiya”, and “Beduvenu Varavannu”, from his hit films, amidst the cheering crowds.

NITK director Prof K M Lokesh presided over the programme and said that NITK has been keen on organising Incident, in order to promote co-curricular activities like sports and cultural events, for students. The annual programme which was a one day event in the previous years, has now become a five day event, which underlines its importance, he added.

Around 400 students from various engineering colleges across the country will take part in various cultural and sports events, organised on the lines of Incident.

NITK Students’ Welfare dean Prof Suresh M Hegde, Incident convener Sharath Kamath Shevagur and Student Union President Arshad Khan were present among others. A basketball match was inaugurated after the formal function. A classical night was performed by Karthick Iyer.
