Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the people of Uttar Pradesh will give the Samajwadi Party and its alliance partner the Congress and the BSP a “shock” in the Assembly polls.

“Akhileshji has garlanded Rahul, who till a few days ago, had undertaken a campaign against him in the state,” Modi said at a rally in Mirzapur.

He also attacked Akhilesh for not honouring the promise made by his father and SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav. “Mulayam, when he was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had promised a bridge here. As his son, Akhilesh should have fulfilled his father’s promise, but he did not,” Modi said.

Modi said corruption was deep-rooted in the state, and no work is done without paying a bribe. Modi also quoted Hindi poet Ashok Chakradhar to stress that “all types of corruption were found in the state”.

Modi claimed the BJP would secure a huge majority in the polls with its alliance partners and ensure all-round development of the state.
