Last Updated 08 March 2017, 19:04 IST

The 800-MW first unit of the Yeramarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS) has successfully completed the trial run by generating power continuously for 72 hours.

Addressing a press meet Karnataka Power Corporation Limited MD G Kumar Naik said that state-of-the-art technology had been used in YTPS units as a result of which heat generation had increased by 10%.

“ This has also brought down the coal utilisation. The first unit consumes 11,000 MT of coal per day. The pollution caused by YTPS is 5% less than the other thermal units,” Naik said. YTPS is the third 800-MW thermal unit in the country and such units had been set up in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat also.

Naik said the commercial operation of the unit would be brought to the notice of the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for fixing tariff. “Steps had been taken to complete works on the second unit in the next six months,” Naik added.
