Fancied MEG look to finish the job

Last Updated 17 March 2017, 19:05 IST

Madras Engineer Group (MEG), needing just a draw to clinch the BDFA Super Division league title, will look to finish the job when they take on Accountants General's Office Recreation Club (AGORC) here at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday.

MEG will be without their main forward Liton Shil and midfielder Ayush, who were sent-off in their penultimate tie against Army Service Corps on Thursday. The Sappers are second in the points table with 19 points and have a goal difference of +7.

Table toppers Students Union (20 points, +6 goal difference), who are still in the reckoning, will emerge champions if MEG go down to AGORC.

It will be a crucial tie for the Accountants (4 points), who are placed second from bottom, as a loss or a draw will seal their relegation.

Meanwhile, Ozone FC defeated South United 3-1 in another ill-tempered affair on Friday.

In the 86th minute, referee Suresh Babu showed red cards to Ozone’s Vivekananda and United’s Subash for getting into a tussle.

Ozone have completed their league engagements and sit third on the table with 17 points. They leap-frogged ASC (17) on goal difference (+10). United, meanwhile, are sixth with 12 points.

Mani put United ahead in the 23rd minute but two back-to-back goals from Anto Xavier (31st) and Akshay (35th) in a space of four minutes turn the tide in Ozone’s favour. Vivekananda then struck in the 42nd minute as Ozone doubled their advantage.
Results: Super Division: Ozone FC: 3 (Anto Xavier 31st, Akshay 35th, Vivekananda 42nd) bt South United: 1 (Mani 23rd) ‘A’ Division: ADE: 1 (Manoj 25th) bt Bangalore Eagles: 0.
