PCB introduces tough sanctions for indiscipline, match-fixing

According to the details obtained by PTI, the players have been given time till April 5 to sign their new contracts.Any player who does not sign the contract will be eligible to play for Pakistan but will receive match fees and other bonus reserved for the 'C' category players and will also not be entitled to monthly salary.

Well informed sources told PTI that the Board has included the tough clauses in the contracts that were recently offered to the players 18 players, plus stipends to 19 other players.

"Under the clauses if a player is found involved in match-fixing, betting or ball tampering he will be fined between Rs 0.5 million to 2 million and face ban of maximum five matches," one source said.

"But if a player appears in a league or match that is not recognised by the Board or in any match without the permission of the Board he can face a fine of up to Rs 5 million and could be banned from one to five years," the source added.

The source said other penalties include fine of Rs 50,000 to 200,000 for using mobile phones in the dressing room or ground, fine of Rs 100,000 to 500,000 for not attending an official function and fine of Rs 500,000 to 5 million and ban ranging from one to five years for entering into any contract with any foreign league or club without permission of the Board.

"There are other penalties like a fine of Rs 25,000 to 500,000 and ban of one to seven matches for acting against spirit of the game, missing a team meeting, practice sessions or violating curfew hours can result in fines of Rs 250,000 to 1 million," he said.
"There is a fine of Rs 500,000 to 5 million and ban of maximum six matches for giving threatening statements against the Board, talking about retirement in the media, giving comments on sensitive issues in the media, criticising Board or match officials or fellow players or absenting oneself from cricket without reason.If a player violates the Board's travel policy he can be fined Rs 250,000 to 1 million as well," the source said.

The source also disclosed that the Board, apparently upset with the Younis Khan episode, had introduced new clauses in the contracts that forbids a player from making statements in the media and talking about retirement, taking a rest from the sport or break from a series.

A new clause also forbids a player from entering into any contract with a foreign team or club without permission from the Board or even negotiating through a third party without the third party being known and approved by the PCB.
