The state government will officially observe Mahasadhvi Hemareddy Mallamma Jayanti on May 10 every year.
Hemareddy Mallamma, who is a guide and philosopher of the Veerashaiva Reddy community in Karnataka, was born in the 14th century. An ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, she tranformed the hearts of her cruel in-laws with her sincere devotion to God.
The government has released Rs 69 lakh for observing the jayanti in all district headquarters.
No holiday
However, there will be no government holiday on that day, according to an official notification by the Kannada and Culture department.
