Tahsildar told to conduct fresh survey on the lake

Additional chief secretary of Urban Development Department Mahendra Jain on Wednesday directed the tahsildar of Bengaluru East Taluk to carry out a fresh survey and demarcate the boundary of the Bellandur lake.

Joint commissioner of BBMP (solid waste management) Sarfaraz Khan said Jain visited the lake in the morning with officers of various government departments and instructed them to speed up the work.

Penalty imposed
On his directions, a penalty of Rs 5 lakh was imposed on garbage contractor Ramachandra Reddy and health inspector Ravindra was suspended for his negligence to prevent the contractor from dumping the waste.

DH had reported on Wednesday that the lake improvement has been taken up without surveying the lake boundary.

A total of 250 acres of lake land has been encroached upon.
