Class VII student Bhagya E brought a smile on her mother’s face on Tuesday. Bhagya gifted her mother a pair of quill earrings which she made by herself.

Students at the Government Higher Primary School in Kurubarahalli in the city made handmade gifts for their mothers for Mother’s Day. Students studying in government schools were being trained on how to make quill earrings. The training was part of the Art of Giving Bengaluru chapter's mission to empower every government school student.

As part of the programme, students were given summer training where volunteers from the Art of Giving team trained children in various art courses which also included making earrings from quills.

Kurubarahalli Government Higher Primary School headmistress Manjula K S said, “According to instructions from the education department, we have been conducting summer programmes and most of these are related to empowering kids. However, for the past few days, we have been organising interesting programmes from the Art of Giving volunteers.”

Block Resources Coordinator (North 1), Krishnappa who visited the programme said he was happy to see that children were trying to explore their hidden potential. “We need these kinds of special classes so that children can discover their talent.”

Speaking on the occasion, Huliraja, a Class VII student said, “It was really a special day for me as I was wondering what to gift my mom on Mother’s Day. I don't have money to buy costly gifts but was really surprised when I was taught how to make an earring out of a quill. Now, I have hidden the earring so that I can gift it to my mom on Mother’s Day.”
