Sindhanur residents to get water once in six days

Water storage in lakes in the taluk has increased with the recent rains and the City Municipal Council has decided to release water once in six days to 31 wards in the town, informed CMC President Manjula Patil.

Speaking to reporters after holding an emergency meeting with municipal members and officers here on Thursday, she said, the Doddakere which has a capacity to store water upto eight metres has a storage of six mitres at present. The Sannakere which can hold water upto four metres has three metres of water. At a time 35 MLD water is being released for 31 wards and till November the existing storage would be sufficient to supply water every day, she said.

However, later water should be released to Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal and both the tanks should be filled. The people should not waste water but use it judiciously. Drinking water should be boiled and cleaned properly, she said.

Municipal Commissioner Virupakshimurthy said, 8,500 legal water connections were given in the town. Already seven bill collectors have conducted a survey in 15 wards and identified 560 illegal connections. Survey would be conducted in remaining 16 wards too. They should regularise the connections after paying Rs 3,160. Otherwise, legal action would be taken against the illegal connection owners, he said.

He informed that rainwater and drainage water stagnated in 48 sites in various layouts of the town. This would lead to mosquito breeding and spread of contagious diseases. Such sites should be cleaned immediately and if the owners neglected the open sites, their khata would be cancelled.

Stray cattle menace has been creating problem for the vehicle movement on many roads. Road accidents have been increased. The owners of the cattle should shift them immediately. If neglected, the CMC would take them to the Goshalas, he warned.

CMC vice-president Anwarabegum, standing committee president Nabisab, members Lingaraj Hugar, Sharanbasava Natekal, assistant executive engineer Shyamala and others were present.
