Objection raised for Indira Canteen site

Muslim community members staged a protest and stopped the work to construct Indira Canteen at Banatikatta Circle in Old Hubballi on Friday, alleging that the canteen is being constructed on the land meant to be reserved for a minority educational institute.

The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) staff had started the preparatory work to construct Indira Canteen on 2,800 square feet of land. Along with the residents of the area, Corporatror Altaf Naawaz M Kittur visited the spot, and asked the HDMC staff to stop the work.

"No construction would be allowed here, as the HDMC has approved the proposal to allot this land to Mehaboob Minority Education & Welfare Society, and the proposal is with the government. It is not correct to suddenly use this land for Indira Canteen," Altaf Kittur said.

The HDMC staff also tried to use the JCB to clean an adjacent land which I have taken on lease, and later they said it was an error, he charged.

Mushtaq, Jamir Gundi, Abrar, Shaukath Nayak, and others took part in the protest.
