A girl was stabbed to death on Tuesday by her colleague in a shopping mall after having been spurned by her.

The girl, identified as Bonu Janaki (25), is a native of Guyyannavalasa in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. She succumbed to her wounds during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to Circle Inspector Vadde Prasannakumar of Kukatpally police station, Anantappa, alias Anand, a native of Marepalli village of Rangareddy district in Telangana, who is also working at the Dimart store in Kukatpally,  was pestering Janaki and fought with her while on duty many times.

"Janaki was getting engaged soon and was supposed to leave for home for Sankranti festival," the officer said, adding that Anand may have committed the crime when Janaki's roommate Roopa was not with her in the room that they shared.

Roopa, who found Janaki in a pool of blood, immediately shifted her to a local hospital in the Moosapet area and then shifted her to a corporate hospital in Kukatpally, where she died.

"Janaki has been living in our house for the last four years. She was a very simple and sincere girl who always minded her business.  It is very unfortunate that she is no more,"  Venkatesh, the owner of the house she stayed in, said, adding that Anand had threatened Janaki and even broke her phone in a fit of anger recently.

None of the other tenants in the residence heard any noise. The police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Anand.
