Dharna for Ponnampete taluk postponed

The dharna being carried out for the last 70 days demanding a separate Ponnampete taluk has been postponed temporarily.

However, the fight will continue till the formation of the taluk, said struggle committee convener Machimada Ravindra.

Nagarika Vedike president P B Poonaccha said that during his visit to the district recently, the chief minister has assured the Nagarika Vedike members of taking a positive decision on taluk formation in the next budget. Therefore the dharna has been postponed till the next budget. But the Horata Samiti will continue the follow-up works such as providing the related documents, meeting the officials and elected representatives.

Speaking at the Gandhimantapa in Ponnampete on Wednesday, Poonaccha said that the Nagarike Vedike conceptualised the dharna. The next plans will be chalked out by Taluku Horata Samiti. A new struggle committee will comprise of four hoblis and 21 gram panchayats, he said and thanked the office-bearers and public for their cooperation.

Gram Panchayat member Mookalera Lakshmana, Rajya Kadamba Kannada Sangha legal advisor Sandesh Nellittaya and advocate M T Cariappa were present among others.
