A CBI spokesperson claimed that agency sleuths had recovered documents showing that he had a land in his name in Ahmedabad, an investment of Rs 20 lakh in a local home finance company, one property in a shopping mall and a plot of land.
Besides he and his wife were Directors in one Zems Infrastructure Private Limited, the spokesman claimed.

He claimed that out of four bank lockers, two have been operated by the CBI from which gold worth Rs 25 lakh and Rs 10 lakh was recovered. All of them are in CBI custody till tomorrow.

Desai was arrested along with three others for allegedly receiving Rs two crore from a Punjab-based Medical College for getting sanction to enroll students for year 2010-11.
The CBI spokesman also said that it had come to the notice of the agency that some sections of the media have reported that it has recovered 1.5 tonnes of gold worth Rs 1,801.50 crore from Desai during searches conducted in connection with a case registered against him.

"It is clarified that this report is untrue, baseless and totally speculative in nature, and hence CBI denies it," the spokesman said.

The CBI spokesperson said Rs 14 lakh was also seized from the Bank of Baroda account of Desai.
