Nine farm workers, all women, died when a tractor they were traveling in plunged into a canal early on Friday morning.

The tractor trolley was carrying 30 farm workers at the time of the accident.

All the nine bodies have been fished out of the deep waters of the canal.

Nineteen workers were rescued and five of the injured were shifted to Devarakonda government hospital.

According to Nalgonda district police, the tractor plunged into a canal near Vaddipatla of PA Palli block of the district.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the tractor, who was reportedly speaking on his mobile phone, lost control and landed into the canal.

Local villagers rushed to the spot and helped in pulling out the survivors.

While the search for more bodies is going on, police fear that the death toll might increase.
