Cop stabbed to death while chasing robbers

The police managed to catch the two alleged robbers Raghu (38) and Rajesh (37) after a long and eventful chase. The two men belong to Mattanur in Kannur district of Kerala.
Sherigar was stabbed by one of the duo he had managed to capture during the chase.

The drama began when police constable Prakash who was on highway patrol duty received a call from a sentry that some unidentified men had attacked and robbed a petrol bunk, escapaing with the purse and a mobile phone.

Prakash rushed to petrol bunk and asked his colleagues to come with a rifle. Constable Suresh joined Prakash and they chased the robbers. Assistant sub-Inspector Subbanna and personnel too joined the chase in a jeep. While trying to enter an apartment building, they assaulted a localite.

At 2.45 am, the miscreants attacked police jeep at Ring road near Kharvikere. The robbers came across Byndoor Circle Inspector Kantaraj on NH 17. Kantaraj caught them, but they managed to escape from his clutches along with Kantaraj’s pistol.

The second robber who was caught by Sridhar, stabbed him and fled. In the melee, Inspector Kantaraj sustained minor injuries. Finally, around 6 am, police arrested the two men with the help of local youths on the banks of the river near dumping yard at 6 am.

Petrol bunk robbery
The duo are said to be involved in theft cases in Kerala. They were also suspected to be involved in the petrol bunk robbery at Byndoor and Mangalore.

IGP (Western Range) Gopal Hosur, SP Praveen Pawar and DySP Vishwanath Pandit visited the spot. It was said Sridhar had joined Byndoor police station recently. His wife Nagarathna is also with the police force and is serving as a constable at Kollur station.
