From being a mere device to communicate, the cellphone has evolved over the ages and has become a style statement for its users. Almost every six months, one comes across the most high-tech and sleekest cellphones in the market but not everybody can afford to keep up with changing trends.

Youngsters are discovering innovative ways to spice up their cellphones with creative  accessories.

Gone are the days of those ugly big black cases that protected the cellphone but made it look bulkier than usual. It’s all about the crochet bags and the customised skins, say youngsters.

Aishwarya, a student, says she is very attached to her cellphone and always comes up with ideas to give it a good make-over.

“It’s a lot of fun. I generally go to this store in Forum that has a range of items to chose from. Like fancy stickers and shells and mirrors that one can hang on the phone to give it a whole new look. I guess having the same old colour gets really boring. It’s all about creating an identity and such accessories help in doing that,” she adds.

A rather popular habit amongst young cellphone users is to stick small crystals on to their phones.

These sparkling adhesive accessories are available either as individual crystals, which can be applied one at a time, or as intricate designs.

Most mobile phone shops stock the sticker-sheets in retail stores. Charms are another popular and affordable accessory that one can use to spice up the look of a cellphone.
Available in different shapes and forms, charms add a lot of character to the cellphone.

“By attaching star-shaped charms or tiny bells to the cell, one can bring in a varied personality to the cellphone. Plus, it gives the phone a distinctive character making it stand out in a group,” says Sheethal, a working professional.

While most of the accessories make the phone look very feminine, Vishaal,
a student, says that guys too try out varying options with their phones.

One of the main things they experiment with is the skin of the phone. Easily replacable, customised and in funky shapes, one can find designs ranging from animal prints to the picture of your favourite movie character.

The options are practically limitless when it comes to changing the look of the cellphone fast.

“However, the skins offered by the makers and carriers are often limited in colour, style, and can also be on the rather expensive side. Luckily, the makers of non-branded cellphone accessories see opportunities in the market for a wider range of colours, styles, and that comes with low prices,” he adds.
