According to the Basavanagudi police, Ganesh was an auto driver and became close with Mahadeva, who was luggage auto driver some six years ago. Over a period of time, Mahadeva’s prospects changed and he bought a tempo. Ganesh began to extort money from Mahadeva since then.
He went to Mahadeva’s house on November 6, 2007 for money but the latter refused to concede the demand. An irked Ganesh decided to settle scores with Mahadeva and stabbed him to death the same evening.
After investigation, Ganesh was arrested from his house in Hanumanthnagar, police inspector Sajjad Khan said.
The police also took Lokesh into custody, whose two-wheeler Ganesh rode on the day of committing the murder. Lokesh, who gave a statement before the magistrate later turned hostile alleging that he was compelled by the police.
The court directed to register a case against him for turning hostile and also awarded imprisonment, said the police.
