'Cyber cafe owners should maintain records on users'

Police to act against those who fail to comply with the order

This data would help the owners in the event of miscreants using their premises to committ cyber crime, said said Deputy Commissioner of Police R Ramesh.

Addressing an interactive session organised jointly by the Mangalore City Police and the Ideacts Innovations, developers of Clinck cyber cafe manager (CCCM) software, at the Police Commissionerate here on Monday, Ramesh warned that there are possibilities of hackers transfering money after stealing data from bank accounts. They may even send threat mails from cyber cafes. In such cases, owners of the cafe will be booked if they fail to maintain records related to the customer, he added.

Ideacts Innovations Retail Marketing Head Krishna Swami giving a presentation on the CCCM, said that it provides cyber cafes with a user-friendly software, which is helpful in all aspects of cafe management like accounting, terminal management and user data storage. With this system in place the owners of the cyber cafes will be able to give maximum information to law enforcement agencies whenever a cyber crime takes place, he explained. Implementation of the Cyber Cafe Regulations and Rules under the Information Technology Act will be made easy, transparent and fool-proof with the introduction of CCCM software.  Customers will be requested to register before gaining access to terminals and internet. An all India single login ID will be given to all visitors during registration.

A registered user can use his username across all partner cafes in India to surf internet without providing information repeatedly, Swami said.

All information and data back up including photo, identity card, address, contacts, e-register of the visitors will be stored in the CLINCK servers, he added. The user data storage system can help police to check terrorists from sending mails from cyber centres and make cafes free from cyber crime.

Further it also helps cyber owners in maintaining accounts, tracking printouts, and billing. The CCCM software will be supplied and installed free of cost to all cyber cafes, he added. About 180 cyber cafe owners participated in the interactive session. DCP Muthuraya and Assistant Commissioner of Police B J Bhandary were present.
