Governor stresses on strengthening legal education

He suggested the Government to enhance infrastructure in premier law institutes like National Law School of India University.

“There are close to 14,000 members in the Advocates’ Association and the State should take initiatives to update their knowledge,” he told a gathering of lawyers at an orientation programme here on Monday.

He urged young lawyers to be patient and responsible, as they play an important role in a democracy. Nearly 400 practitioners of law attended the event held at the City Civil Court building.

Chief Justice of Karnataka, Jagadish Singh Khehar shared his experiences as a young lawyer with the audience. Narrating the story of Michaelangelo, who hesitated to take up a painting assignment for Pope Julius II, but ended up painting a masterpiece, he said: “Lawyers should have faith in themselves to conquer problems.” The event was attended by several prominent lawyers and senior members of the Bar council. The other speakers highlighted the challenges of new age lawyers and the need to present cases effectively.
