Vaidehi president for Alva's Nudisiri

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that for the first time in the history of Alva’s Nudisiri, a woman is chairing the sammelana.

In the past, Baraguru Ramachandrappa, Chennaveera Kanavi, S L Bhairappa, Chandrashekar Kambara, G Venkatasubbaiah, Hampa Nagarajaiah have presided over the sammelana.

He said Vaidehi will deliver the presidential address at the inaugural function of Nudisiri. Vaidehi is the pen name of Janaki Srinivasa Murthy. Some of her collection of stories are ‘Maragida balli,’ ‘Antharangada putagalu,’ ‘Gola,’ ‘Samaja shastrajneya tippanigalu,’ ‘Ammacchi emba nenapu,’ ‘Krauncha pakshigalu.’ ‘Asprashyaru’ is her novel.

Vaidehi has contributed to the childrens’ play. Some of her plays are ‘Dham dhoom,’ ‘Suntaragali,’ ‘Mookana Makkalu,’ ‘Gombe Macbeth,’ ‘Nayimari,’ ‘Soorya banda,’ and others.
Vaidehi’s stories have been translated to Marati, English, Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati. Based on her ‘Gulabi Talkies’ and ‘Sanna Alegalu,’ Director Girish Kasaravalli directed ‘Gulabi Talkies.’

She has won M K Indira award, Athimabbe award, Anupama award, Bhargava award, Sathyakama award, Rajya Sahithya Academy award.
