Probationary Assistant Commissioner Dr Santhosh Kumar has said that the Depressed Classes (DC) Manna land has been identified in 15 villages in Mangaluru.

The authorities have received 4,500 applications from the members of SC/ST communities. Measures will be taken to allot the land after verifying the applications.

He was speaking at SC/ST grievances meeting held at Tahsildar’s office on Wednesday.

Dalit leaders said that DC manna land should be identified in other villages too. The poor beneficiaries had applied for land a year ago. The title deeds should be distributed by August 15, they urged.

Dalit leaders said that the applications submitted under 94 C and 94 CC of Akrama Sakrama scheme should be disposed of at the earliest.

Dalit leader Ashok Konchadi said that a few members from Bhovi community are availing SC certificates. Legal action should be initiated against them. To which, Santhosh Kumar said that criminal case would be filed against misuse of caste certificates.

Dalit leader Anand said that title deeds have been issued to 76 houses in Amrithamayi Nagar in Karnadu of Mulki. However, there are incidents of a few families possessing two title deeds. Such title deeds should be suspended and given to the homeless poor.

The probationary AC said that birth and death certificates should be issued to the applicants within 21 days under Sakaala.

When Dalit leaders raised the issue of an alternative arrangement for two Koraga families living without any basic amenities at Bikarnakatte, the officer said that in spite of alternative arrangement at Kulshekar and Bunder, the families refused to shift.
