Samajwadi Party leader and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has indicated an alliance with the Congress in the coming Assembly elections. However, the young leader has put the condition that only a few seats would be available to the old party.

He said that this alliance can win more than 300 of 403 seats. The indication came when he was answering to various questions put before him at the Hindustan Times Summit.

The UP chief minster made this assertion days after SP supremo Mulayam Singh declared, after meeting Prashant Kishor, who advises Rahul Gandhi on UP poll matters, that the party would not go for any alliance in the coming elections.

“When there is an alliance, somebody has to accept that he will get fewer number of seats. We are anyway going to form our government again with a majority and if they also come along, then we will cross 300,” Akhilesh said.

“It (UP polls) is a big battle. If the ally is good, then we can sort out other parties,” he said, indicating the possibility of including few more parties.
