<p>Hyderabad:<strong> </strong>The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the allotment of 21.6 acres of land in Visakhapatnam to IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at a nominal price of just 99 paise.</p><p>"IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh successfully piloted the allotment of 21.16 acres in Visakhapatnam for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at 99 paise. Lokesh led discussions with TCS and convinced the cabinet to offer land at a nominal cost to build an IT services hub in Vizag," said a senior Andhra Pradesh government official.</p><p>Nara Lokesh visited Tata House in October last year, meeting Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran to make a strong pitch for TCS to establish a large development center in Andhra Pradesh. According to highly placed sources in the Andhra Pradesh government, TCS will invest Rs 1,370 crore in this Vizag unit, creating 12,000 jobs.</p>.TCS says retail, travel clients more exposed to US tariff turmoil.<p>"Through continuous follow-ups and discussions between the state government and TCS, Lokesh ultimately secured the land allotment. This bold decision signals to the industry that Andhra Pradesh is serious about attracting IT investments. Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought Tata Motors to Sanand in Gujarat by allotting land at 99 paise, which marked a landmark moment for Gujarat's auto industry. We look at this land allotment to TCS as a landmark moment to the IT sector in Andhra," the official added.</p><p>The TCS facility will be a significant boost for Andhra Pradesh and Visakhapatnam, where the government has planned to establish a 'Data City.'</p><p>During his visit to Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in January, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian to explore establishing a design center in Visakhapatnam for developing chips used in servers.</p>.<p>The Chief Minister also requested the Google Cloud CEO to set up a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh to integrate its server supply chain, positioning the state as a headquarters for server maintenance services. Naidu assured complete cooperation from the state government.</p><p>Google Cloud, the third-largest cloud provider globally, has already established two cloud regions in Delhi and Mumbai. The company recently signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up its 'Data City' in Visakhapatnam and develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications while creating skill development opportunities for local youth.</p>
