<p>When people were dying in the neighbouring Uttarakhand from flash floods, hunger and cold, the government doctors in an Uttar Pradesh district had held a lavish party within the premises of the district hospital.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The party, reportedly organized by the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the Shahjahanpur district hospital a few days back and attended by several senior government officials, continued late into the night causing problems for the scores of patients admitted in the hospital.<br /><br />According to the reports, liquor was also served in the party and a music show was held, much to the discomfort of the patients, hospital employees said. The party had been organized on June 26 when rescue operations were at their peak in the neighbouring hill state and the UP government had banned all kinds of celebrations in view of the tragedy.<br /><br />Reports said that some hospital employees had lodged a complaint with the local Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Rajesh Yadav, who in turn had brought it to the notice of the in-charge of the district and senior minister Om Prakash Singh. Singh had apprised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav about the matter and had recommended action against the CMS Dr Narain Das Arora. The government, taking a serious view of the matter, suspended Dr Arora from his post.<br /><br />Singh has also sought action against the chief development officer, chief medical officer, sub-divisional magistrate and some other senior officials, who were also present at the party.<br /><br />UP doctors had been on the headlines in recent times for all wrong reasons. A few months back a government doctor had performed an orthopaedic surgery on an undertrial without administering anaesthesia after the latter refused to pay the sums demanded by the surgeon.<br /><br />The sorry state of Uttar Pradesh government hospitals is an open secret. Barely a few months ago, it was found that the ward boys and sweepers were giving stitches and injections to critically wounded people at Bulandshahar district hospital. <br /><br />Then the hospital administration, quite brazenly, had said that sometimes ward boys did give stitches as they had been trained.<br /><br />A few months ago, the auxiliary nurse midwives were found engaged in the delivery of babies under candlelight as there was no power and the generator was out of order at a community health centre in Barabanki district.<br /><br />2,000 people from UP missing<br /><br />The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said that over 2,000 people from the state are missing in Uttarakhand, reports DHNS from Lucknow. Official sources said that a list of 2,098 missing people has been handed over to the Uttarakhand government.<br /><br /> The state government has set up centres at different districts for the purpose of gathering information about the missing people in the hill state.<br /><br />Officials said that the chances of survival of many of the missing people appeared to be slim given the fact that they have remained traceless since the flash floods hit the state.</p>
