Many have stopped using one of this cheapest means of communication in the internet era but Opposition Vice Presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi has chosen the 50 paisa post card to reach out to his voters.

The idea has come from Gandhi himself when he met Opposition leaders during filing of nomination papers in Parliament on Tuesday.

The leaders found it interesting and suddenly one of them instructed his aide to buy the post cards from the post office in Parliament House. Soon, 1,000 cards were brought.

Sources said the cards will be posted with Gandhi's appeal soon.

Another letter from Gandhi detailing why he is contesting and appeal to all the 785 MPs, including those from the ruling NDA, is also being prepared.

Gandhi will also record a video message for MPs.

The grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, during his interaction with reporters after filing his nomination, said his fight is not about arithmetic.

"Arithmetics is about numbers. Philosophy is about principles. I choose to fight on principles," Gandhi, who prayed at Mahatma Gandhi's statue after filing his nomination, said when asked about numbers not in his favour.

Gandhi will return to capital on August 4, a day before the polling for the post of Vice President in which he is pitted against NDA nominee Venkaiah Naidu.  Gandhi was also "very happy" that BJD also extended support to his candidature.

The news of BJD support also came when Gandhi was with other leaders. He also spome to BJD chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, with whom he has a personal relationship for long.

BJD had not supported opposition candidate for Presidential polls Meira Kumar and Gandhi's supporters were not counting on Patnaik till now.
