It's time Kerala backed BJP, says Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday called for a “third alternative” in Kerala, saying that his party should be brought to power to develop the state.

Addressing a massive gathering of party workers at the Shangumugham beach here, the Gujarat Chief Minister said successive governments of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had only failed Kerala despite the state’s immense wealth of human and natural resources.

“Before every general election, the Left parties kick off this drama around a Third Front because they know that on their own, they won’t be able to win seats. Forget the Third Front… it’s Kerala that needs a third alternative.

The BJP has come to you offering that alternative,” he said. In an address that focused largely on issues of the state, Modi launched an all-out attack against the CPM and the “shadow-boxing” between the two opposing political fronts.

Modi said the two fronts had a “behind-the-screen” understanding on many issues that helped them garner political mileage. An understanding that even hijacked investigation into the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T P Chandrasekharan.
