Jammu and Kashmir L-G Manoj Sinha leads by example, pledges organ donation

Srinagar: In a significant gesture to promote organ donation, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha has announced his decision to join the organ donors’ register.

He made the request to the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) on Sunday, urging them to include his name as a donor. SOTTO functions under the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP), Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Speaking at an event organised by the Bharatiya Jain Sangathan, Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the SS Jain Sabha, Jammu and Kashmir, to promote organ donation, Sinha emphasised the importance of organ donation as a life-saving initiative, highlighting how it could help countless individuals awaiting transplants.

“I have requested SOTTO to add my name to the list of organ donors," he said. “Organ donation should be embraced as a guiding principle in life.”

The Lieutenant-Governor said organ donation is not just an act of generosity, but a profound gift of life which not only transforms the lives of the recipient, but also has a profound impact on their families and loved ones.

The move is expected to have a positive impact on the campaign for organ donation in Jammu and Kashmir, helping normalise the practice and encouraging more individuals to make life-saving decisions.

Sinha also extended his gratitude to those who have voluntarily pledged their organs and called on others to support this noble cause.

“For donors, organ donation is an opportunity to give the gift of life," he said. “Everyone should contribute to society by actively participating in organ and tissue donation.”
