After decades of delay, BDA transfers eight layouts to GBA

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has handed over eight layouts it developed decades ago to the municipal corporation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on an "as-is where-is" basis.

The long overdue decision will free the BDA from maintaining the layouts, allowing it to focus on forming new layouts and housing projects.

The Urban Development Department (UDD) order requires the BDA, Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), and municipal corporation officials to inspect these layouts to identify infrastructure gaps.

The UDD has directed the BDA to provide 50% of the amount if a layout lacks roads, parks and similar facilities. Where water supply and sanitary infrastructure is lacking, the BDA must bear 50% of the cost and the BWSSB the remainder.

The order also states that the BDA must transfer the khata issued to sites and houses in these layouts to the municipal corporations. Documents will include property tax arrears. Land under litigation will not be transferred to the GBA, the order adds.

With the transfer of eight layouts, a routine process, the BDA will remain responsible for only three layouts: Arkavathi, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, and Dr Shivaram Karanth Layout.
