Bengaluru: CBI traps CPRI joint director while accepting Rs 9.5-lakh bribe

Bengaluru: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said it had arrested two persons, including the joint director of the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, in a Rs 9.5-lakh bribery case.

The agency said it registered the case on January 8 against the CPRI official and other private persons over allegations of obtaining bribes for issuing favourable test reports for electrical equipment produced by Sudhir Group of Companies.

“After registration of the FIR, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the joint director of the Central Power Research Institute, Bengaluru, along with an executive of the private company while transacting the bribe amount of Rs 9.5 lakh, on 9.01.2026, at Bengaluru,” the CBI said.

"During searches at the residence of the public servant, cash of Rs 3.59 crore, foreign currency including US, Hong Kong and Singapore dollars, Indonesian Rupiah, Malaysian Ringgit, Euro, Yuan (Renmin), Swedish Krona and UAE Dirhams worth Rs 4,05,858 (approx) was recovered, along with jewellery and other incriminating documents.

"The searches have led to a cash recovery of about Rs 3.76 crore so far (including foreign currency). Searches are continuing. The investigation is in progress,” the agency added.
