BOOT model approved for tunnel road project

Bengaluru: The Cabinet decided on Thursday to develop the North-South corridor (Tunnel road project) in the city from Hebbal to HSR Layout (Silk Board junction) through Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) model.

Addressing reporters during the post-Cabinet briefing, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said: “The Cabinet provided administrative approval to the North-South corridor being planned from Hebbal to HSR Layout Silk Board Junction in two packages at a cost of Rs 17,780 crore.”

Acknowledging that the BOOT model will be tolled, Patil said global tenders would soon be floated.

Since no bidders had participated in the bid when the government approved solid waste management through four packages, the Cabinet decided to change its order dated September 2, 2024, and decided to call for tenders through two packages.

The government decided to strengthen industrial training institutes (ITIs), Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI), Karnataka State Department of Agriculture (KSDA) and JTS at a cost of Rs 1,386 crore.

Patil said the state government would bear 70% of the funds (Rs 986 crore) and the Centre would bear the remaining Rs 416 crore. The Cabinet also decided to develop the Quantum Innovation Park, Phase-2 in the IISc campus in three-and-a-half years at a cost of Rs 48 crore. The project will be a joint venture of IISc and Foundation for Science Innovation & Development.

A decision to procure equipment for the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at Hubballi at a cost of Rs 55 crore received Cabinet approval.
