The Bengaluru North University will provide free education to the children of martyrs and debt-ridden farmers, who committed suicide.

Revealing the action plan of BNU from the year 2018-19, university vice-chancellor Prof T D Kemparaju said a new campus will come up near Amaravathi village, Sidlaghatta taluk, Chikballapur district.

"The children of martyrs and farmers, who committed suicide over farm loan debts, will get free education in our university. We will be spending an approximate Rs 20,000 to 50,000 on the students, depending on the course. The revenue department has granted 110.25 acres of government land for the construction of our new campus at Sidlaghatta. We have already submitted the action plan report, requesting the government to allocate Rs 360 crore for the development of the physical and other infrastructure of the new campus," Prof Kemparaju told reporters.

The university also plans to start add-on and dual programmes from the 2019-20 academic year, which would aid students in skill development and help them grab opportunities in the job market.

"We will add eight more PG courses from this academic year. The courses planned are in MA — English, Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication; in MSc — Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Botany; and M.L.I.Sc Library and Information Science. We have requested the government to do the needful for the same," he added.
