College girl ends life

A college girl allegedly committed suicide at her house after her parents reprimanded her over a domestic issue in Mahalakshmi Layout on Tuesday.

The victim, Ranjitha C, 17, a student of a private college in Rajajinagar, was a resident of Kurubarahalli. She hanged herself at her house when her parents were away, said the police.

Earlier in the day, the victim’s two-year-old niece accidentally fell down and sustained head injuries. Ranjitha’s father, Chennakeshava, an auto driver, took her to task for being negligent as the incident had taken place in her presence, said the police.

The family members rushed the child to a nearby hospital, while Ranjitha stayed back inthe house.

There was no response from inside when they returned and knocked on the door. Chennakeshava broke open the door, went inside and saw his daughter’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

She might have taken the extreme step fearing punishment for the child’s head injuries, the police said.
