Being a half-Indian, he is no stranger to India. DJ Stuart Ojelay, who entertained the music-lovers of Bangalore recently, has been an active part of the house music scene for more than 10 years.

He recently performed across the country as part of the Hed Kandi India Tour 2011 in association with Tuborg Fun Starter Nights. A day before the show in Bangalore, the talented musician spoke to Metrolife on his experiences in India and his future plans.

Prior to this tour, Stuart had visited India twice. “But that was only as a tourist,” he explains.

“I went to Goa and it was fun,” he says. “It’s my first time in Bangalore though and I am really looking forward to the gig. I hope we get the same reception here that we got in Kolkata and New Delhi.” The DJ is totally impressed by the country. “Everyone is so welcoming and appreciative. They just embrace you,” he exclaims.

Stuart’s inspirations are many. “All the worldwide house producers like Erick Morillo,” he answers.

“And I am totally influenced by the 70s disco. That music applies even today,” he adds.

Ask him who would he like to collaborate with and he says, “A number of people. And I hope all the collaborations happen. You never say never!” he quips. After his India tour, he will be flying to Switzerland for a show.

“It’s so warm here and it will be really cold there,” he smiles. Stuart has performed in various countries and like any other DJ, he enjoyed playing at the party capital of the world, Ibiza, the most.

“I have always wanted to play in Miami. I have never played in Australia either. So hopefully, I will go to both these places soon.”

He is also excited about the release of his new album Back to Disco. “It releases worldwide, including India, on March 31,” he informs.

In his free time, he loves chilling out and watching movies and sports. He is a big fan of football and cricket.

“I love Sachin Tendulkar. He is the greatest sportsman ever,” gushes the DJ. “It’s amazing to see how he still maintains himself.”

Ask him more on the ongoing World Cup and he speaks about his Indian roots.
“My father is an Indian while my mom is English. So you can imagine my love for cricket,” he retorts excitedly as he signs off.
