<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, along with religious leaders, laid the foundation stone for Kempegowda Bhavana at Sumanahalli Circle with a promise to complete the construction “as soon as possible”.</p>.<p>The design of the new building is yet to be finalised, as the government has asked a group of architects to come up with ideas, they said.</p>.<p>The ceremony also marked the 516th birth anniversary of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, widely regarded as the founder of modern Bengaluru.</p>.<p>The new building will house the Kempegowda Development Authority, among others.</p>.DKS unveils grand plans for Kempegowda Jayanti this year.<p>“Kempegowda laid the foundation for the development of Bengaluru, which has emerged as one of the fastest-growing cities in Asia. He also built an inclusive city and contributed to the well-being of people from all walks of life. We have immense respect for Kempegowda and his governance style,” Siddaramaiah said, while promising to develop Kempegowda’s tomb in Kempapura village of Magadi.</p>.<p>During the programme, the government felicitated three institutions — the Indian Institute of Science, Kempegowda International Airport, and Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd — for their contributions to Bengaluru and Karnataka.</p>.<p>Shivakumar said Kempegowda Bhavana would come up on five acres of land.</p>.<p>“We have allocated Rs 100 crore for the building. The land belonged to the Social Welfare Department. Minister H.C. Mahadevappa agreed to transfer the land and the formalities were completed in less than a week,” he said, adding that Kempegowda Bhavana will be situated close to the upcoming metro line.</p>.<p>After paying floral tribute to the Kempegowda statue on the airport premises, Shivakumar urged the Bangalore International Airport Area Planning Authority (BIAAPA) to develop a theme park around the statue.</p>.<p>“Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has taken up the responsibility of developing the park, but there has been a delay owing to a shortage of grants. We have now fixed the issue and the work will be completed in 3-4 months,” he said.</p>.<p>At the anniversary celebrations, religious leaders such as Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswami, Dr Nirmalanandanath Mahaswami, Dr Nanjavadhoota Mahaswami, and Nischalanandanath Swami were present. Earlier in the day, seven ministers, along with MLAs, paid floral tribute at seven locations.</p>
