Bloomsbury Street in London is known to be a foody's paradise with hangouts serving authentic food from various countries. Sounds delectable, but sadly, not all of us can head to London for a taste of the street experience. What if I told you one could get a sneak peek of the London street right here in Bengaluru?
Bloomsbury's Global Kitchen and Bakehouse offer just that. A glimpse of the London street and more
Bloomsbury's is a piece of London in the middle of towering IT offices in Whitefield. As you walk through the door, a classic London styled red phone booth and floating teacups hanging from the ceiling will warm your heart (even more if you are a fan of the Harry Potter movies). The ambience does justice to the theme, which is an ode to Bloomsbury's namesake in London.
The menu does the same. Dishes not just from London, but Indonesia, India and even American find a place in it. The menu will spoil you with choices and trying it all may not be possible in one visit. At that point, I was slightly sceptical if one place could do justice to so many types of cuisines. I had to now taste and watch!
My meal began with a cucumber infused drink - Tangy Cucumber Cooler. It hit me with its freshness and the flavours were nothing like any other mojito or mocktail that I had tried before. Next, I was served Leeks and Mushroom soup. Its creamy texture and comforting mild flavour helped me relax after a long day at work.
For appetisers, I tried the fiery wings and chicken n corn Quesadillas with authentic flavours. Emboldened with the result, I went ahead and tried their pizza (a big deal for a pizza lover who likes pizzas only from certain places). And voila! The thin crust, fresh toppings pizza hit the right notes. Vegetarians cannot miss the Southern Spiced Cottage Cheese Pizza which is a fusion dish with Masala Papad garnish. The non-veg lovers can try the Arabic Spiced Chicken Pizza for a wholesome pizza experience.
But what is the point if one visits a London themed eatery and not try the native food? Thus came the Chicken Wellington. Baked thyme chicken breast in layered pastry will just melt in your mouth. This dish takes a long time to reach your tables as the puff pastry is made fresh for each order. One can taste it in every bite.
However, one dish that is a joy-of-fusion is 'Crispy Stuffed Shells' that are in fact Bloomsbury's take on our beloved Pani Puri. Did it spoil the chat for us? No way! In fact, it gave us even chicken and paneer pani puri with some tangy taste and retained the authenticity of the street food.
Answering my sceptic food gut, I can safely say that Bloomsbury's does justice to all the cuisines it offers!
Other must-try dishes at Bloomsbury's are Kung Pao Chicken with noodles, Nasi Goreng (savour the amazing seafood flavour in this one!), and their Bloomsbury's Lamb burger.
But how is even a meal at a Bakehouse complete without some desserts? An artisan bakery, this place serves desserts that are at times, too pretty to eat and the taste was as good as the desserts looked. We had the classic Blueberry Cheese Cake with creamy cheese and a perfect crusty base. Also, try the dreamy blue velvet cake and Russian Honey Crunch that sells like hot buns at the bakehouse.
After a fulling fusion meal at Bloomsbury's, I had still not tried all of the things on their menu. Thus, I left the global kitchen (total justice to the name) with a box of cupcakes and a promise to come back.
