<p>Hundreds of relatives of Dhananjaya (45), who allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of a residential building in MC Layout, 8th main road, Vijaynagar, staged a protest seeking justice. They termed the incident as murder and held Dhananjaya’s wife Padma (38) responsible for it. The police were trying to protect Padma as she bribed them, they alleged.<br /><br />However, the police refuted the allegations. “I waited in the station since morning for Dhananjaya’s parents to lodge a complaint. They turned up only towards evening. The police registered the case after they lodged the complaint. There is no question of the police protecting Padma,” Vijaynagar police inspector Jagannath Rai said.<br /><br />Background<br /><br />Padma and Dhananjaya were married for nearly two decades. The couple have two sons, one 18-year-old and another 10-year-old. Differences cropped up between the couple one-and-a-half years ago after Dhananjaya started suspecting his wife’s fidelity. They used to quarrel frequently over the issue.<br /><br />The c ouple parted ways with Dhananjaya staying in Pattegarapalya and Padma in MC Layout. The sons stayed with the mother. Dhananjaya and his brothers spent one day in prison after Padma lodged a dowry harassment complaint against them last month. They got bail and came out.<br /><br />On Wednesday, Dhananjaya went to his wife’s house around 8 am. However, Padma and sons were away. Later, he jumped from second floor of the building. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Later he was shifted to Nimhans. However, he died around 1 pm. According to the police, a bottle containing liquid used to kill cockroaches and a paper cutter were found in the house. His body had cut marks on the throat.<br /><br />Padma claimed she and her sons had left for Thippasandra around 6 am to attend her brother’s wedding. She rushed to her place after news channels started flashing news that Padma had eliminated her husband and fled. “I am innocent. I have not murdered him,” she stressed.<br /><br />However, Dhananjaya’s parents alleged that Padma invited him to her house. Padma’s lover eliminated Dhananjaya and directed her to go to Thippasandra. He threw the body down after half an hour and fled. She was present when the murder took place, they charged.<br /><br />They stated they had informed the police about Padma and her threats of eliminating Dhananjaya.
