<p>A commentator’s role has changed with the advent of visual media. The gripping narration now has to be steeped in adventure, excitement and loads of action. And Gaurav Kapoor, the commentator and anchor for ‘Extra Innings’, confesses that he loves cricket in any form and anything about the sport can get him talking non-stop. <br /><br /></p>.<p>But he concedes that it is not easy to say the right things at the right time. And it isn't easy to pepper commentary with humour all the time. <br /><br />But Gaurav has managed to do all these things to perfection. He has not only excelled in the choice of movies but is also among the most sought-after anchors during the two months of IPL. “I don’t take up projects during Indian Premier League (IPL) and people who want to cast me in their films don’t ask me anything because they know where I would be those two months,” he says. Gaurav says that he can’t wait to take a break because he has been hosting cricket in various formats. <br /><br />“I want to go off to some place where there's no cricket,” he says in his trademark humourous style. He clearly loves his job. “The art of storytelling, during the IPL, is to merge cricket and entertainment. Cricket is serious business but to say it interestingly is an art in itself,” he states. <br /><br />Gaurav has played quite a bit of cricket himself in his early days and continues to play with a couple of his buddies living in the neighbourhood. “I’ve always loved the game. It’s always a good sport when you never take it too seriously,” he says. <br /><br />Is IPL losing its sheen? Or is it getting a bit repetitive and monotonous? Gaurav wouldn’t buy that observation at all. “We see that the stadiums across the country are packed, especially for the evening games,” he notes. With all the scams that surround the IPL and the news of match-fixing going around, does he feel this can bother people? “People don’t really care about these things. If one is a hard-core IPL fan, the game comes before everything else. The IPL is here to stay,” he says. <br /><br />Gaurav is quite choosy when it comes to the kind of projects he wants to work on both in films and as a host. “I would like to creatively collaborate with people and not get stuck in the number game,” he sums up.<br /></p>
