<p>The huge popularity of a move last year by Bangalore University (BU) to allow past students who were unable to complete their courses to have a go at completing them has prompted the university to re-introduce this measure.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The reintroduction of this measure was okayed at the academic council meeting here on Thursday. Introduced as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of BU last year, it generated great response with as many as 1,864 past students registering to take exams. Last time around, only those students who had cleared 50 percent of their subjects were allowed to avail of this opportunity. This time, there are no such criteria and any past student will be able to complete the course. <br /> <br />Candidates will attempt the exam in accordance with the present syllabus and will be given 90 days to clear the subjects, according to Ningegowda, registrar (evaluation), BU. He said the measure was aimed at bolstering gross enrolment rate of the State.Meanwhile, B Thimmegowda, vice-chancellor, BU said that an FIR would be filed against R K Somashekar, former registrar, pertaining to the distance education marks cards scam of 2013. <br /><br />“Some important clues and names have been found, however we cannot reveal anything right now,” Gowda said. With regard to the controversy surrounding BNM College, Thimmegowda said barring the eight students for whom the exams were conducted in a separate centre, there was no proof of any wrongdoing on the part of the rest of the 229 students. Results of 229 students would be declared on Friday. Results of all the students were withheld due to controversy. <br /><br />BU is mulling over various actions against lecturers and colleges for not showing up for the valuation of the English paper for the II, IV and VI semesters of various courses. Not paying the lecturers and cancelling affiliation of colleges are some of the actions planned. Bangalore University will hold its annual convocation on May 30. As many as 32,479 students will receive their degrees.<br /></p>
