The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which is organising rallies across the country to build pressure on the Centre to pass an ordinance for the construction of a Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, will organise one such event in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The right-wing Hindu nationalist organisation hopes to bring together around 50,000 people for the ‘Janagraha Sabha’, which will be held between 4 pm and 7 pm at the National High School Grounds in Basavanagudi this weekend.

While there will be a discourse by religious seers like Pejawar Mutt’s Vishwesha Tirtha Swami, Adichunchanagiri Mutt pontiff Nirmalanandanatha Swami and Siddaganga Mutt’s Siddalinga Swami, there will be speeches by Chinmayananda Swami from Haridwar, Bhagayya (RSS joint general secretary) and Milind Parande (VHP’s international general secretary). Yuva Brigade founder Chakravarthi Sulibele is also said to be one of the speakers at the event.

P N Sadashiva, Bengaluru City president, VHP, told DH that the organisation will hold bike rallies and a padayatra ahead of the event — which is likely to cause traffic snarls.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which has been organising gatherings at Ayodhya at regular intervals, will host a mass gathering at the historical city on the same day. A similar sabha will be held in Nagpur in Maharashtra on Sunday.

VHP is reaching out to religious and social leaders, in the hope that they will build pressure on policymakers to allow the construction of the temple.

These sabhas will conclude with a massive public rally in New Delhi on December 9.
